Simple routine

Morning

  1. Gentle cleanser.
  2. 2.5–5% benzoyl peroxide if you have many inflamed pimples.
  3. Non-comedogenic moisturizer.
  4. SPF 30–50 sunscreen every day.

Night

  1. Gentle cleanser.
  2. Salicylic acid (0.5–2%) 2–4 nights/week for blackheads and clogged pores.
  3. On alternate nights, consider adapalene 0.1% (a retinoid) — start 2–3 nights/week and use a pea-sized amount over the whole acne-prone area.
  4. Moisturizer.

Important

  • Don’t squeeze or dig out blackheads—this can cause scars and darker marks.
  • Don’t use harsh scrubs, lemon, toothpaste, or alcohol on your face.
  • Start slowly; using several strong products at once can cause irritation and make acne worse.
  • Expect improvement over 6–12 weeks, not a few days.
  • If the pimples are painful/deep, leaving scars, or not improving after about 3 months, see a dermatologist.

If you’re pregnant or trying to become pregnant, don’t use adapalene/other topical retinoids without medical advice.
