Simple routine
Morning
- Gentle cleanser.
- 2.5–5% benzoyl peroxide if you have many inflamed pimples.
- Non-comedogenic moisturizer.
- SPF 30–50 sunscreen every day.
Night
- Gentle cleanser.
- Salicylic acid (0.5–2%) 2–4 nights/week for blackheads and clogged pores.
- On alternate nights, consider adapalene 0.1% (a retinoid) — start 2–3 nights/week and use a pea-sized amount over the whole acne-prone area.
- Moisturizer.
Important
- Don’t squeeze or dig out blackheads—this can cause scars and darker marks.
- Don’t use harsh scrubs, lemon, toothpaste, or alcohol on your face.
- Start slowly; using several strong products at once can cause irritation and make acne worse.
- Expect improvement over 6–12 weeks, not a few days.
- If the pimples are painful/deep, leaving scars, or not improving after about 3 months, see a dermatologist.
If you’re pregnant or trying to become pregnant, don’t use adapalene/other topical retinoids without medical advice.
