The Whispering Pages ( Horror Stories)

Emily had always loved old books. She spent countless hours in the dusty corners of antique shops, searching for hidden treasures. One rainy afternoon, she stumbled upon a quaint little bookstore at the edge of town. Its sign, “Whispering Pages,” creaked in the wind. Intrigued, she stepped inside.

The air was thick with the scent of aged paper and ink. Shelves towered above her, filled with volumes that seemed to hum with history. An elderly man with a kindly face and piercing blue eyes stood behind the counter.

“Can I help you find something?” he asked, his voice barely more than a whisper.

“I’m just browsing,” Emily replied with a smile.

She wandered deeper into the store, her fingers trailing along the spines of the books. In a dark corner, she found a leather-bound book with no title. Curious, she opened it and saw that the pages were blank. As she turned the pages, faint whispers began to fill the air, growing louder with each flip.

Startled, Emily snapped the book shut and brought it to the counter. “How much for this one?” she asked.

The old man looked at the book and then at Emily. “That book is not for sale,” he said softly. “It is dangerous.”

Emily’s curiosity only grew. “Please, I have to know why.”

With a sigh, the old man relented. “Very well. But be warned, once you start reading, you cannot stop. The whispers will follow you, haunt you, until you finish the story.”

Emily agreed, thinking it was just a sales tactic, and paid for the book. That night, she began to read. The words appeared on the pages as she read, telling the story of a young woman trapped in an ancient curse. The whispers grew louder, surrounding her, filling her mind.

She read on, unable to stop. The shadows in her room seemed to move, whispering her name. Days turned into nights, and Emily could not tear herself away from the book. Her eyes grew red, her body weak, but still, she read.

Finally, as she reached the last page, the whispers turned into screams. The final words revealed the woman’s name: Emily. The room plunged into darkness, and she felt cold hands gripping her shoulders.

Emily tried to scream, but no sound came out. The shadows enveloped her, and she was pulled into the book, her own voice now joining the chorus of whispers, waiting for the next reader to find the cursed tome.

The next morning, the bookstore owner found the book on the counter, its pages blank once more. He sighed and placed it back on the shelf in the dark corner, waiting for the next curious soul to wander in.
