1. Daily Cleansing and Treatment
• Use Salicylic Acid (BHA): This is the best ingredient. Use a cleanser, toner, or leave-on treatment with salicylic acid once a day. It dives into the pore to dissolve the oil and dead skin cell clog.
• Try a Retinoid: Over-the-counter Adapalene gel (a retinoid) is highly effective for preventing and clearing blackheads by speeding up skin cell turnover. Use it at night.
2. Weekly Deep Cleaning
• Clay/Charcoal Mask: Use a mask once or twice a week. Clay and charcoal draw out excess oil and impurities from the pores.
• Pore Strips (Use Sparingly): These can temporarily remove surface blackheads, but they don’t solve the long-term problem. Avoid using them more than once a week.
3. Essential Prevention
• Wash Twice Daily: Cleanse your face morning and night to remove oil and dirt.
• Choose Non-Comedogenic: Use only non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging) makeup, sunscreen, and moisturizers.
• Do NOT Squeeze: Squeezing blackheads can push the clog deeper, leading to infection, inflammation, or permanent scarring.
If blackheads are very stubborn or inflamed, consider seeing a dermatologist for professional extractions or stronger treatment options.
